Tammy McDade Retires After 28 Years of Service
Tammy McDade, senior administrative associate, is retiring from the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering after 28 years of service. McDade joined the department in 1989, when she was hired on as an administrative assistant. She was promoted to administrative associate in 1996 and to senior administrative associate in September of 2017. McDade specialized in working with research grants and financial transactions, including payment vouchers, reimbursements and student appointments.
McDade processed over 5,000 vouchers for the department during her 28 years and increased productivity in working with the department’s faculty. “Throughout her career with McKetta, Tammy has shown great leadership and initiative,” says Thomas Truskett, department chair. “She did whatever it took to get the job done.”
In 2009, McDade earned a certificate in the Professional & Business Communication Skills Program at UT Austin, an achievement she feels has helped her in her role. “In my time here, I have loved working with the faculty and staff and serving the UT community,” says McDade. “Greeting someone with a smile is the first thing people will remember and opens the door to growing positive working relationships.” In 2000, McDade received the Ruth Crawford Staff Excellence Award for her exemplary service to the department.
Prior to joining the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering, Tammy joined UT Austin in 1988 as a UTemp employee, working as a clerk in the Heath Center.
