The Inaugural Academy of Distinguished Chemical Engineers Banquet

This year marks the celebration of our first ever Academy of Distinguished Chemical Engineers Banquet and Ceremony. On April 21, we honored our inaugural class of 71 honorees, all alumni who have previously been named Distinguished Engineering Graduates by the Cockrell School of Engineering.

Considered the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering’s most prestigious award, Academy honorees have provided leadership and technical contributions that have helped transform economies, improved quality of life and benefited society. The Academy and its members also support the department in preparing and empowering the next generation of world-class engineers to go out and change the world. Thirty honorees and family representatives accepted their Academy medals at this year’s ceremony as a representation of induction into the esteemed group.

This inaugural celebration is set to become an annual tradition. We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the second annual Academy of Distinguished Chemical Engineers Banquet and Ceremony fall 2018. As the Academy grows from its inaugural year, honorees will be selected by an appointed committee and will be invited to attend the banquet and ceremony with returning Academy members.

Along with the establishment of the Academy, the department has created the Academy of Distinguished Chemical Engineers Endowed Excellence Fund to support critical needs within Texas ChE and provide operational funds for the Academy. The endowment is expected to assist with faculty recruiting, student fellowships, facility and equipment upgrades and safety gear.

The event took place at the Headliners Club in downtown Austin as part of the department’s Alumni Weekend festivities, which also included a networking happy hour, a symposium in remembrance of Dr. Robert S. Schechter and a golf tournament.
