Thomas Edgar Selected as Kelly Lecture Speaker at Purdue University
Dr. Thomas Edgar, professor in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering, has been selected as the 2017 Kelly Lecture speaker at Purdue University.
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the Kelly Lectures, talks presented annually at Purdue’s Davidson School of Chemical Engineering by outstanding engineers and scientists from across broad areas of chemical engineering. Recipients are selected by Purdue faculty in recognition of their contributions to research and education. Past Kelly Lecturers include legendary figures in chemical engineering and two Nobel laureates.
For the past 40 years, Edgar has concentrated his academic work in process modeling control and optimization, with more than 500 articles and book chapters. Edgar has co-authored two leading textbooks, “Optimization of Chemical Processes” and “Process Dynamics and Control” and has received major awards from AIChE and ASEE.
Dr. Edgar was the 1997 President of AIChE, is the co-founder of the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition and is director of the UT Engineering Institute. Edgar will deliver his lecture in two sessions on April 17 and 18 in Forney Hall on Purdue’s campus.
The Kelly Lectures were established in 1965 by a grant from Purdue alumnus Arthur Kelly (BSChE ’24). He was a retired Executive Vice-President and Director of B.F. Goodrich Co, and received an honorary doctorate from Purdue in 1961.
