Alumna Named Distinguished Graduate of Longview High School
Alumna Shannon Cohn, M.D. will be recognized as a Distinguished Graduate of Longview High School in Longview, Texas, May 13.
Valedictorian of the Longview High School Class of 2001, Cohn received her bachelors degree in chemical engineering from Texas ChE in 2005 and then continued her education at the Baylor College of Medicine, graduating in 2009.
Cohn was an exemplary student within our department. She won the Rase Brothers Award in 2005 for having the highest GPA among graduating seniors who graduate in four years, as well as the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Research Award for her work with organic electronics in former faculty member Dr. Lynn Loo’s research lab.
Cohn began her medical residency at Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2009 and went on to work in the hematology and oncology departments at the Dallas hospital. She has been working as a pediatric oncologist and researcher at the Dell Children’s Blood and Cancer Center in Austin since last year.
Cohn, along with two other recipients, will be honored at Longview ISD’s 26th annual Distinguished Alumni Ceremony and Luncheon with a commemorative brick presentation followed by a reception.
Dr. Thomas Truskett, chairman and alumnus of the department (B.S. ’96) was also a recipient of a Longview High School Distinguished Alumnus award in 2008.
