Undergraduate Student Hanbi Liu Wins AIChE Separations Poster Competition
Hanbi Liu, senior undergraduate student, recently won first place in the Division 1 Separations Poster Competition at the annual American Institute of Chemical Engineer’s meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.
Liu’s poster, entitled, “Oxidative Degradation of Aqueous Amine Solvents for CO₂ Capture”, presents her research in Professor Gary Rochelle’s lab, studying the relationship between amine structure and oxidation behavior.
Professor Rochelle’s group studies CO2 removal from fixed CO2 sources, such as coal fired power plants, with amine solvents and the oxidative degradation of different amines. Oxidation is the main contributor to solvent loss in CO2 capture.
