Randy Rife Receives Ruth Crawford Staff Excellence Award

Randy Rife, Senior IT ManagerRandy Rife, senior IT manager, received the 2013 Ruth Crawford Staff Excellence Award at the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering Holiday Banquet.

The annual award recognizes excellent staff contributions and is named after former senior staff member Ruth Crawford who devoted 30 years of exemplary service to the department working for Professor Emeritus John J. McKetta Jr.

“Randy does so much for our program,” said Tom Truskett, department chair. “He meticulously plans to ensure our computing facilities meet the needs of a rapidly changing research and teaching environment, and he implemented the first live web casts of departmental seminars to the J.J. Pickle Research campus. We are very fortunate to have him as part of our team.”

The award recipient is selected by a cDepartment chair Tom Truskett (right) awards Randy Rife the Ruth Crawford Award at the Holiday Banquet.ommittee that includes one faculty member, one graduate student, and the previous year’s winner. Nominations are requested from faculty, staff and students. The previous year’s recipient is not eligible for the award.

“Randy is very dependable, efficient and thorough in his work,” said Lavanya Mohan, Ph.D. ChE ’13. “He responds to requests almost instantaneously and fixes issues at hand immediately.  He helped me resolve numerous computer-related issues over the five and a half years I was at UT Austin.  He truly deserves to be appreciated.”

Randy has worked for the department since September 2000.
