McKetta’s Picnic Provides Springtime Fun
The AIChE student chapter hosted it’s favorite event of the semester Saturday, April 13-McKetta’s Picnic. The traditional biannual gathering was held at Eastwood’s Park where students met for a fun time.
There was ample delicious food, including fajitas and veggie burgers grilled by super-chefs Brian O’Connor, AIChE vice-president-external, and Matt Ferris, AIChE president. Guacamole made on-site from a plethora of avocados was definitely a crowd pleaser.
Students socialized and played football, volleyball, and corn hole. The piñata, a traditional highlight, was certainly no disappointment this semester. Senior Carlo Garcia employed his athletic abilities to decapitate the pirate shaped piñata in one powerful swing.
McKetta’s Picnic, named after Professor Emeritus John J. McKetta, has been a part of the chemical engineering department since 1946. The event was originally hosted at the McKetta’s house on Lake Austin. It’s welcomed hundreds of students through the years and has been a beloved time that’s strengthened the department’s sense of community.
Special thanks to Provenance Consulting for partnering with AIChE for the spring picnic.
