Tufts University-Assistant/Associate Professors
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (ChBE) at Tufts University will be filling several tenure-track faculty positions over the next few years, consistent with our plans for faculty expansion. In academic year 2011-12, we are seeking faculty members at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the broad fields of Biological Engineering (cell, metabolic, or molecular aspects) and Sustainable Energy (catalysis, advanced materials, process systems engineering). However, outstanding candidates from any subfield of chemical engineering are encouraged to apply. Truly exceptional senior candidates may also be considered for appointment at the level of Full Professor.
We seek individuals committed to fostering excellence in scholarship and teaching, and whose research contributes to the interdisciplinary thrust areas of the School of Engineering at Tufts. Tufts ChBE Department presently comprises eight tenured and tenure-track faculty, one research professor, two Professors of the Practice, and three adjunct professors. The department prides itself as an excellent place of learning, offering an integrated curriculum in chemical and biological engineering to a highly select group of students. The faculty has a strong presence in the academic community, with research expertise that spans the areas of catalysis, energy materials, biotechnology, cell and metabolic engineering, nanotechnology, and systems engineering.
The past seven years have been a period of extraordinary growth for Tufts School of Engineering, witnessing recruitment of over half of its current tenured and tenure-track faculty members and a three-fold increase in research expenditures. The SOE distinguishes itself by the interdisciplinary and integrative nature of its engineering education and research programs within the environment of both a “Research Class 1” University and a top-ranked undergraduate institution. We offer the best of a liberal arts college atmosphere, coupled with the intellectual and technological resources of a major research university. As home to seven graduate and professional schools across three campuses, Tufts University prides itself on its culture of cross-school partnerships. Located on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus, only six miles from historic downtown Boston, SOE faculty members have extensive opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration, as well as participation in the rich intellectual life of the region.
Candidates should possess a doctorate in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline and show strong potential for leadership and the ability to develop and sustain an externally funded, internationally recognized research program. Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
