Bill Liechty Accepts Excellence in Graduate Research Award

Bill Liechty poses in lab.Graduate student Bill Liechty received the Excellence in Graduate Research Award at the Graduate School/University Co-op Awards Banquet on May 18 in Austin.

The award recognizes outstanding master’s or doctoral research and includes a cash prize of $2,000. Bill was selected for his work in developing dual-responsive nanoscale hydrogels for oral delivery of small interfering RNA. He is a National Science Foundation Fellow supervised by Dr. Nicholas Peppas.

“This is a well-deserved honor, and notable achievement, for Bill. We’re really proud of him and his work,” said Dr. Roger T. Bonnecaze, department chair in chemical engineering.

Bill will represent The University of Texas at Austin among 570 young researchers from 80 countries at the Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting June 26-July 1, 2011 in Lindau, Germany.
