Graduate Program Moves Up in U.S. News & World Report’s Rankings
The McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering rose to No. 6 in U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 graduate program rankings, affirming its position as one of the nation’s top chemical engineering graduate programs. The organization ranked the department No. 7 last year.
Additionally, the Cockrell School of Engineering climbed to the No. 9 best engineering school, while aerospace, civil, computer, electrical, environmental and petroleum engineering programs all ranked in the nation’s top 10. Three of the programs placed in the top five: petroleum engineering, at No. 1; civil engineering, at No. 4; and environmental engineering, at No. 4.
Cockrell School graduate degree programs ranking in the top 10 this year are:
- Petroleum Engineering, No. 1
- Civil Engineering, No. 4
- Environmental/Environmental Health Engineering, No. 4
- Chemical Engineering, No. 6
- Computer Engineering, No. 7
- Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering, No. 8
- Electrical Engineering, No. 8
U.S. News & World Report’s engineering graduate program rankings are based on student acceptance rates, faculty/student ratios, research expenditures, reputation among engineers in industry and academia, the number of doctoral degrees produced, the percentage of faculty elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering and entrance exam scores.
