Why I chose to study Chemical Engineering: I have a passion for math and science, and I also had two very influential teachers in high school – my physics teacher and my chemistry teacher. Both were engineers (mechanical and chemical, respectively) and encouraged me to pursue engineering. Chemistry was my favorite science, so I picked chemical engineering.
My advice for incoming freshmen: Find what you love to do outside of school and make time to do it! It will be something to set you apart, as well as something to give you valuable experience that school cannot give you. Also since you love it, you will have a great time doing it! Second piece of advice: SLEEP. Take care of yourself, mind and body.
What I love about Austin: The nature – Barton Springs, Zilker Park, the Greenbelt, Hamilton Pool, Jacob’s Well, Lady Bird Lake, Inks Lake… the list goes on and on.
Outside of class, I am involved in: American Institute of Chemical Engineers, University Leadership Network, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship.
Three things most people don’t know about me:
- I am a jazz musician.
- I went to the coolest high school ever – the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston.
- I have a “little” brother who is four inches taller than me.
