Dr. Christine Schmidt Featured on Fox News

Dr. Christine Schmidt, professor of biomedical engineering and chemical engineering, and graduate student Sarah Mays were featured on Fox 7’s “Good Day Austin” for their ground-breaking work on regenerating body tissue.

“This is something I feel like I would read out of a science fiction book,” said Reporter Keri Bellacosa.  “This research is amazing.”

Schmidt discussed how biomaterials and therapeutics can regrow or regenerate injured nerves in someone that has suffered an injury, had surgery, or had a tumor removed.  Mays showcased a material she is developing that minimizes scaring.

Technology developed in Schmidt’s lab is already being used by physicians around the country to help patients heal.
